Have you ever wondered what life would be like for your relatives if you were not born at all? This is the question George Bailey (James Stewart) faces when he tries to suicide on Christmas Day. The angel who rescues him shows him how lifeless the lives of his family would have been without him.
The film was voted “the most promising film in the history of cinema” in a poll a few years ago.
Frank Capra’s films have been excellent examples of ethics movies, and of course no one has the slightest doubt of the depth of their artistic concepts.
In “It’s a Wonderful Life,” Capra masterfully used the theme of destiny and wisdom in the form of a pleasant narrative, and no one ever denounced the instructive aspect of the film because that moralistic worldview was hidden in many layers of the story. The film does not include repulsive slogans or advice.
This film can be used to better understanding of issues such as hope, resilience, the importance of family and moral life. A film with an ethical theme that for many of us can be a good illustration of educational concepts.
