This animation is about a music teacher named Joe. Joe loves jazz music, and despite years of hard work, he has not been able to succeed in playing music well. Soul can be called a great stereotype breaker. Because it considers some issues like “what are the basic issues of life, such as death?”, “What is the purpose of life?”, “Why did we enter this world?” And “where will be our final destiny?” .
Disney’s new animation addresses something which has been human’s problem throughout history “finding the purpose of life” a person who pursues various goals throughout his life and ultimately his life path is determined based on these goals. Here Joe loves “jazz” music and the only goal he has in mind is to be able to play in a band. Many people may have similar goals and see life as a path to achieve their goals. This is where “Soul” reaches out to these people and confronts them with a fundamental question: “Is the value of life just the achievement of goals?”
Soul is definitely one of the best recent Disney animations whose audiences are not just children. It is released at the best time, a time when men in the modern age are more limited than ever and has neglected the beauties of life to achieve their goals. Soul asks his audience to recognize the value of life while he is alive. Relationships, family, friend’s assemblies and even everyday events can be the greatest human pleasure in life. Soul ends its story with the best possible ending. As Joe looks back to what he has experienced throughout his life and gets ready for an eternal journey to the afterlife, he is given the opportunity to return to life. When he is asked, “What would you do if you returned to Earth?” he answers “I’m not sure, but I would enjoy every moment of my life,” And this is the only message that the animation intends to convey to its audience. “Live, and do not limit yourselves.”
