One of the best psychological and character-oriented dramas in cinema which won the Academy Award for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
The film is about a part of the life of King George VI of Britain and the father of the current Queen Elizabeth II who stuttered. Bertie, the King’s son, suffered from stuttering, which was the main reason for the lack of self-confidence for him which prevented him from taking part in social affairs. At the urging of his wife, he tried to cure his stuttering. Naturally, this was a big problem for a king who had to speak in front of people. The moment George felt disappointed, Lionel Log (Jeffrey Rush, who was both a great actor and a speech therapist) came to the story. Elizabeth took him to Bertie “George VI”. Lionel saw a man overwhelmed with depression and helplessness.
One of the best scenes you see in the movie that makes you laugh and is the main concept of the whole movie: “The king was sitting in front of a movie screen with his wife and children watching German military documentaries and Hitler’s famous speeches.
When His daughter asked him: “What does he [Hitler] say?” He answered: “I do not know. But whatever he says, he speaks perfectly”
This film can be used to better understanding of issues such as motivation, frustration, self-confidence and etc. This is a film about overcoming weaknesses that can be a good illustration of educational concepts for many of us.
